I just finished my 2nd leg, which ended up being 9.6 miles.  I felt really good on this leg.  We are keeping score on how many people we pass, and how many people pass us.  I passed 45 people with no one passing me.

Total run time 1:01:39.  This had 600+ elevation gain and about 256 in loss?  Loving the new shoes and hating that my next leg is 4 miles long and with an elevation gain of 1,700 ft in 4 miles "ragnar".  This will be a slow one, but still fun.

I ran my final leg today and I am glad that it is over.  I had the second half of Ragnar, this is a 4 miles climb up to 8900 ft in elevation from about 7200.  I have ran to the Y several times and it is 1000 ft gain in .9 and it is tough.  I knew that this would be a true test for me.  I didn't want to walk on this stretch and I wanted to be un 10:00 min miles.  I started the first mile at about 9:57 and then on the start of the second I got a bad side ache.  I still didn't stop and walk I quickly asked for some peppermint oil out of the car and rubbed it on my side and it eased the pain enough that I could continue on.  I picked off several runners, many that started way ahead of me.  I was only passed once by a kid that maybe wighed 120lbs dripping wet and it was raining so he was all of that!  I kept him insight but never caught up to him.  I was at 10:04 when I started mile 3 but quickly dropped to 9:54 and then finnaly 9:42 over all average pace. 38:44 for the entire run.  I got into the car and rode to the top of the mtn and our next runner was having knee problems so he asked if I would run with him.  So I finished the last 5.7 with him.  I ran with a bunch of beginners and I had a blast.  I ended up running 11 because the guy that was going to run it was scared to death of the hills that he made himself sick.  So we ended up switching.  I know that this isn't legal but he was terrified!  I liked the race, but I would prefer running 26.2 and then be done!  I like to sleep and I like to eat normal foods on a normal schedule.  I loved the fun and excitement watching these other 5 guys run hard and try hard.  They seldom ever walked and they were a blast to hang out with.

Great job Tyler you are doing great! It sounds like a fun race, probably alittle out of my league though;-)

From Burt on Sat, Jun 20, 2009 at 16:07:07 from 98.167.151.26

Hmmm...maybe you're not runner 11, unless they changed the course. I suppose I could go on-line and look, but that would be too much work. So I'll just say - way to get that road kill!

From Burt on Sat, Jun 20, 2009 at 16:08:00 from 98.167.151.26

BTW - my very first Ragnar here in AZ, I got passed 6 times the whole race, and never passed anyone.

From allie on Sat, Jun 20, 2009 at 16:19:13 from 208.110.151.113

you are runner 10 right? i ran the ragnar leg last year and i was 10. oof. hard. but you'll do great. and the view at the top is more than worth it. there may even be some snow up there still.

....oh, and great job so far!

From allie on Sat, Jun 20, 2009 at 16:22:52 from 208.110.151.113

ummm...i should have read the first post first. now i am not so sure that you are runner 10. and burt is not so confident in his runner 11 assumption either. i guess we'll find out soon enough!

Great run!!! I can't wait to see how it all goes :) Hang tough!!!

From RAD on Sat, Jun 20, 2009 at 20:48:24 from 67.166.99.8

runner 9 did 9.6 and runner 10 did the 4 miles up to the top of ragnar, but 9 did 3.5 up the bottom of ragnar. So, maybe the team is switching things up a bit :)

From RAD on Sat, Jun 20, 2009 at 20:50:15 from 67.166.99.8

Oh, Great run by the way!!! That was an awesome pace for the 9.6 - I did leg #9 as well and was happy with 1:17!!! Nice pace and road kill, I didn't get that many BUT I never got passed and that was my goal!! :)

From TylerS on Sat, Jun 20, 2009 at 21:50:47 from 66.119.143.249

We had to do some switching on #11 too. Migrane's and throwing up! I was always getting handed the harder runs though. Surprisingly nobody wanted to switch for Ragnar! It was a confusing day, with our van breaking down on leg 11 and then having to hitch a ride to leg 18. The other guys hitched a ride except for the two that rode with the tow truck driver back to Midway to get a new another car. It was a crazy night and only got about 1 hour of sleep, because of the car situation. So we really didn't stick with the original game plan but oh well! So sorry for the confusion!

Oh and thanks for the comments!

Tyler, Did you guys have a blue van? I think we saw the tow truck picking you up! The whole time we were so grateful that wasn't us and felt SO bad for you guys!!! I'm glad you were able to continue on and get it finished. It really was a fun experience for me - you ROCKED Ragner!!! SWEET!!!

Sounds like alot of fun. Good job on the ragnar piece, that was tough to keep running.

From Kelli on Sun, Jun 21, 2009 at 17:45:15 from 71.219.76.64

Tyler, you are a monster! Not only did you take the hardest of the hard runs, but then you hopped out and ran more to help people out, AWESOME! That Ragnar was a....bear, for lack of a better "clean" word. It conquered me.

It was good to see you here and there and get to chat!

From Dustin on Sun, Jun 21, 2009 at 20:56:33 from 64.75.230.140

Great job, hope you had fun with the relay. We should try to get a team sometime and do a few of the other ragnar events, like the California one.

From Shimelle on Sun, Jun 21, 2009 at 23:30:51 from 75.162.230.14

WOW! I am impressed! I ran Ragnar also but with a 13 minute pace. Great job, that had to be the toughest 4 miles I've ever run (or walked:) in my life.

From Walter on Mon, Jun 22, 2009 at 08:59:26 from 76.27.15.208

Tyler, That was fun seeing you guys out there! I dont think I could run Ragnar without walking myself. I kept telling Kelli that she definitely was the one for the job on that for our van. That is freakishly steep! I lucked out running down it. lol That was the fastest ive ever run. I prd for a 5k and 10k. Still I think Ragnar would be better suited at the start. Knowing you have that on your 3rd leg makes you fret the whole time.

From TylerS on Mon, Jun 22, 2009 at 09:59:03 from 66.29.160.130

Walter I couldn't believe how fast you were moving! Well I can, but wow that fast! Good thing the road was wet, or your feet would have been on fire! Ragnar should be at the start! I would have liked to run my last leg fast! But oh well!

'Dustin I think that I could only handle one of those a year! If the Cali one is in the winter that would be good.

Kelli I was glad that I was able to see you guys at almost every stop! Good job on your Ragnar run!

From Walter on Mon, Jun 22, 2009 at 12:00:27 from 76.27.15.208

yeah no doubt Tyler. I was saving some leg for my third run on purpose and wasnt even close to a 5:45 pace on my second run like they had projected. But I made up for it on the last leg for sure. My back, IT bands and thighs are all suffering right now from it. I love downhill though. Great job running with your team mates. Your a stud!

From Kelliebarney on Mon, Jun 22, 2009 at 21:50:04 from 99.132.184.133

How fun that you guys got to run the relay. I have always wanted to do that. It looks like it ended up being a great training run for you. My dad ran it and said there were like 600 teams, crazy!!! Keep up the hard work!

From sam Dean-Howard on Tue, Jun 23, 2009 at 06:03:37 from 78.32.130.9

Wow that sounds like your having fun in a sweet pain kinda way, well done and keep those burning feet going (someone said you were running that fast if it wasnt raining your feet would be on fire) LOL

:-)

From Sue on Tue, Jun 23, 2009 at 10:04:15 from 75.169.84.119

You guys looked like you were having fun. good job out there. You asked me how I felt after my leg and I said "You've got to be kidding" I was referring to the name of the run which was "You've got to be kidding" After wards I thought, he probably didn't realize that and I probably sounded kind of rude. Lol. Anyways, it was fun to see your team and to see Kellie and Heidi up there! Way to go!

From Smooth on Wed, Jun 24, 2009 at 12:25:53 from 71.36.84.127

Man alive, Tyler, you ran up that monster mountain at my normal pace. YOU ARE one STRONG, FAST, AWESOME runner!!! We bow to all you Ragnar warrior. Not only did you earn your bragging right, you totally destroy that leg! AWESOME JOB!!!!
