I really dont blog anymore due to time, work and my lack of training for the past year but I was asked if I would write a race report so here you go.

Kellie and I started running this race 4 years ago and we instantly fell in love with the course and how well organized it is.  This year we made it a family affair and took the whole fam up to Ogden to cheer Dad on.  We got up to Ogden and checked in at the Marriot and then went out to dinner to our favorite Italian place up in Ogden, then went for Ice Cream and then finally got to bed.  Ivie slpet so good and actually got up 10 minutes before I was supposed to wake up.  So it worked out just right.  I got ready and headed down to get some breakfast before heading to the bus.  The weather was perfect at the start line.  I ran into a bunch of friends and chatted with Josse and her sister for a while before getting ready for the race.  I used the potty once more and then shed my pants and sweater and headed for the start line.  I didn't recognize and super fast guys at the start (including myself) but their were a couple that "looked" fast.  I was hoping for a 1:21:?? today but I knew that would be a stretch for me.  My PR on the course was in 2009 and I ran a 1:19:04 and placed 5th that day behind some really fast guys.  I knew that I was in no shape to run a sub 6 half today but I wanted to push myself.  I dont have my watch or my splits right now I might post later, lets just say I only had one mile that was under a 6:00.

I started out in 5th place and was behind the 1st place girl that was running with another guy, about mile 6 I passed a kid that said he had broken his ankle??  He looked like he might have gone out a little fast?  So that now put me in 4th, so I was thinking if I could just catch the guy in front of me I could possibly take 3rd...well shortly after that I young kid came up behind me and said come on lets go get 3rd??  He must have went out real slow and then turned it on after the dam.  His legs looked fresh and he never really got a huge lead I just couldnt catch the kid.  At mile 10 I caught the girl and number 4 guy and I never did see them again, I tried my hardest to catch #3 but he kept looking back and every time I got close, he took off.  At mile 13 Kellie and the boys and Ivie were standing waiting for me, I grabbed Evan and had him run the last .1 with me which was at a 5:37 pace and he held on just fine.  I saw the clock and knew we were close to 1:21:?? but I waited to long for the kick and ended up just over at 1:22:06.

I felt really good about my race, my training has been horrible since we had the baby.  Not that I have been doing much at night with her, just very tired in the mornings.  The winner ended up with a 1:20:30 so he must have crashed at the end, I really closed the gap on him and #2.  Sad that my time from 2 years ago would have crushed the 1st palce this year but I know he has been training hard and he ran great.  I know that I can be back to where I was 2 years ago with some good consistent training but life is real busy and my boys are needing more of my time with their sports and activities.  Running is not my job and I enjoy to many other things, so I hope to just stay in OK shape and just enjoy the sport and realize that my "glory" days are over but now it is time for my boys to have theirs...It was a great day, the boys and Ivie were awesome and I reallt missed having Kellie at the start line with me...next year for sure!
